Rob Webber is determined to force his way back into Stuart Lancaster’s England first-team plans despite being named in the Saxons squad.

The 27-year-old’s fine form last season was rewarded by Lancaster as Webber was selected to captain England against the Barbarians before featuring in a two-Test series victory over Argentina.

However this was not enough for the hooker – who played three times in the 2012 Six Nations – to earn a spot in the Elite Player Squad, instead having to settle for a place with the Saxons behind Tom Youngs and Dylan Hartley in the pecking order.

But with autumn internationals fast approaching against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand, Webber has set his sights on adding to his five England caps so far.

“We all had great fun on that trip [to Argentina],” Webber told the Bath Chronicle. “It was three great wins over Argentina and the Barbarians and fantastic to be involved in that environment.

“For me it was a great way to round off the season after suffering with a few injuries over the year.

“Of course I’d have preferred to be in the Elite squad but Stuart certainly made the point that we are all one big squad rather than two separate squads.

“That’s been one of the really big improvements in the England set-up with the integration between the Saxons and the EPS squad.

“I know that if I continue to work hard and impress between the start of the season and November there’s still a great chance I can be involved in those internationals.”
