Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer Could have done little to prevent Torres’ opener. Did very well to stop Oscar sneaking a goal in the second half and showed brilliant reflexes to deny Ivanović and Luiz, too. But he’ll be disappointed with Hazard’s goal in extra time. 6/10

Rafinha Conceded a few sloppy fouls and didn’t really offer much going forwards. Subbed off early in the second half. 4

Jerôme Boateng Drove the play forward from the back on a number of occasions but was left flat-footed for Torres’ opener. Booked for a cynical foul on Oscar late in the second half. 6

Dante Decent defensive showing from the Brazilian alongside Boateng at the heart of the Bayern defence. Needless fouled on Torres on the edge of the box late on. 6

David Alaba Spent much of the game in the Chelsea half but didn’t really offer much attacking-wise. Relatively solid defensively. Scored his penalty. 5

Toni Kroos Had a quiet first half but started the second brightly and fed the ball to Ribery for Bayern’s equaliser. Cracked a couple of shots from distance, too. Scored his penalty. 7

Philipp Lahm Forced to play as a holding midfielder due to injuries and the Germany international didn’t look out of position. However, he was wrong-footed for Hazard’s goal in extra-time. Scored his penalty. 5

Franck Ribery Had plenty of opportunities in the first half, before finally finding the net with a superb 30-yard strike after the break. An outstanding second-half display after a below-par opening 45 minutes. Scored his penalty. 8

Thomas Müller Didn’t really impose himself on the game. Found wanting when faced with a chance to produce the killer ball and missed a good opportunity after being fed by Robben in the first half. Replaced by Gotze in the 71st minute. 5

Arjen Robben Failed to make much impact in the first half aside from a couple teasing through-balls. We’ve come to expect better from the Netherlands international but he improved in the second half and threatened along with Ribery. Off for Shaqiri in extra-time. 6

Mario Mandžukić Was kept relatively quiet by a determined Luiz in the first half and didn’t really impose himself on the Chelsea defence in the second. 4

Substitutes:

Javi Martinez Didn’t make much impact after coming on in the second half – until he popped up with the latest of late equalisers when he produced a neat finish deep in extra-time. 6

Mario Gotze Really offered little following his introduction in the second half apart from being on the receiving end of the Ramires tackle which got the Chelsea midfielder sent off. 4

Xherdan Shaqiri Had a good chance soon after coming on for Robben but was denied by a finger-tip save from Cech. 5

Chelsea

Petr Čech Top fingertip save to deny Ribery mid-way through the first half but well-beaten by the France international’s low 25-yard strike after the break. Was absolutely immense in extra-time, however, when he produced a great string of stops to deny Mandžukić and countless others, too, before Martinez’s late equaliser. 7

Branislav Ivanović Was rarely beaten by Ribery before the break and won a few clever free-kicks in his own half. Struggled to contain the France international in the second half. 6

Gary Cahill An impressive showing by the England defender alongside Luiz and held firm along with the rest of his side as the game developed. 6

David Luiz Committed a few needless fouls on his return from injury but was solid in keeping danger-man Mandžukić quiet in the first half. Hammered home his penalty in style. 6

Ashley Cole Immense performance by the England international as he closed down and harried former Chelsea man Robben. Was top-drawer in covering for his centre-halves all night, too. Scored his penalty, just! 8

Ramires Shown a second yellow card and was sent off late on for a dangerous lunge on Gotze. Before that, he had quietly swept up the loose balls in front of the Chelsea defence. Efficient if unspectacular. 5

Frank Lampard Used his experience to dissect and spread the play when needed. Didn’t venture forward too often. Scored his penalty. 6

Eden Hazard Top-class display from the Belgian. Was the creative force behind most of Chelsea’s attacks. His angled run led to Torres’ opener and he later scored a good low effort early in the first half of extra-time. Departed to a standing ovation late in the game. 8

Oscar Started well but faded a little before spurning a glorious opportunity to put Chelsea ahead again when he needlessly took an extra touch in front of goal. Worked hard throughout, however, and scored his penalty. 7

Andre Schürrle A typically energetic performance from the young Germany international. Slid in the early ball for Torres’ opener and caused a nuisance down the right all night. 7

Fernando Torres Good but not spectacular. Started very brightly and scored the opener with a confident finish from Schürrle’s early low cross but faded drastically in the second half as Bayern fought back. Subbed off for Lukaku in the first half of extra-time. 7

Substitutes:

John Obi Mikel Brought on as defensive cover following Ramires’ sending off. Did OK. 5

Romelu Lukaku Got booked very shortly after replacing Torres for a late tackle. Held up the play well as Chelsea held on. Missed the decisive spot-kick in the shootout. 5
