Frank Lampard admits he has no idea if Wayne Rooney is on his way to Chelsea this summer – but would love to see the England international move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a swoop for the 27-year-old Manchester United striker and are believed to have had two bids for the forward turned down by the Red Devils in recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho remained coy when quizzed about the speculation linking Rooney to Chelsea in his weekly news briefing on Friday.

And Chelsea midfielder Lampard says he would be keen to link up with his international team-mate in west London.

“I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That’s a decision for them and Wayne to come to,” Lampard told Sky News.

“But when you’re talking about us here we’ve got a big squad, we’ve got three or four strikers already.

“We’re going into the season strong, but if the manager wants to add another player we all hope he gets his man.

“I’m really not sure [if the Rooney move] will happen. I don’t know enough about it.

“I didn’t speak to Wayne about it when I was with England last week. He was training and he was focused.

“I’m not privy to transfer stuff. That’s for clubs to decide. I’m a player. I just keep my mouth shut, and train and play.”
