Jose Mourinho says Chelsea will continue their attempts to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer “until the last day”.

The Blues have already had two bids for the England international turned down by the Red Devils after Mourinho made Rooney his top transfer target in the current window.

Rooney’s future has been a source of constant speculation since it emerged that he had a transfer request turned down by United towards the end of last season.

And the newly-appointed Chelsea boss says he will continue his attempts to lure the 27-year-old England international to Stamford Bridge.

“There is no time limit on it,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“We have identified the player as one we would like to have with us. We have done it in an ethical way and we are going to do that until the last day.

“We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club.”

He added: “There have been no direct relations with the player, no contact – absolutely nothing. So let’s see if things change.”
