Kevin De Bruyne admits he is thrilled to have earned the trust of Jose Mourinho following his brilliant Premier League debut for Chelsea on Sunday.
The 20-year-old was named the man-of-the-match as the Blues ran out 2-0 winners over Hull City in their first game of the season at Stamford Bridge.
And the Belgium international is pleased to have impressed Mourinho at such an early stage, although he accepts that competition for places is normal at a club of Chelsea’s stature.
“It’s always nice when the manager has confidence in you; I never have any stress before a match,” De Bruyne told Chelsea’s website.
“Football, for me, is still a game, there’s a lot of pressure but that doesn’t matter.
“You just have to try your best; sometimes you play good and sometimes you are a bit nervous, but that’s football.
“We know we have six good players for that position so we have to prove ourselves on the field. The manager will probably rotate so we will see what happens. I’ve started well and team rotation is normal when you play so many games.
“If you play for a club like Chelsea you have more players at a high level, you have to fight for your spot which is good for the team.”
