Stuart Broad heaped praise on England bowler Jade Dernbach after the hosts beat Australia by 27 runs to draw their Twenty20 series 1-1.

Alex Hales and Michael Lumb produced a partnership of 111 runs, with the former scoring an emphatic 94, to help England post a solid 195-5 at Chester-le-Street.

In response, Australia’s David Warner hit 52 to give the tourists a fighting chance of chasing down England’s total, but Broad’s men turned the screw to win in style.

In particular, Dernbach, who posted figures of 3-34 in the opener, took three quick wickets as Australia could only muster 168-9 in response to England’s innings.

“These two games Jade has bowled fantastically well for us,” said Broad.

“He has shown his skill in Twenty20 cricket on two pretty good batting surfaces. The rest of our bowlers can look at that – something different skill-wise.

“His figures over the two games have been superb and hopefully that form can continue until the World Cup [in Bangladesh next year].”
