Jack Wilshere admits that Emmanuel Eboue is missed at Arsenal – and the midfielder is looking forward to seeing his former team-mate again at this weekend’s Emirates Cup.

The Ivory Coast international, who was a fans’ favourite at Emirates Stadium, sealed a transfer to Galatasaray in 2011 after making 214 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.

Wilshere concedes that the Arsenal squad have felt the 30-year-old’s absence since his departure and is thrilled to have the chance to see him at the north Londoners’ home ground again.

“He was a special character,” Wilshere told Arsenal’s Official Matchday Programme.

“He was good around the dressing room. Even if he was upset that he wasn’t playing, he kept everyone’s spirits up and was a happy guy.

“He is missed and it will be good to see him around the place. A few of the fans will be happy to see him as well.”

Eboue earlier this week revealed his delight at having the chance to return to his former club for the pre-season tournament.

“I still speak to several of the guys regularly – Bacary Sagna and Abou Diaby for example – and sometimes Arsene Wenger too,” Eboue said in the Emirates Cup weekend souvenir programme.

“I always want to hear news from the club because I am a big supporter of them. I’m a Galatasaray player now, but I am still in love with Arsenal and I always watch their games.

“The club only did good things for me, and I never had any trouble from anybody.”
