Joleon Lescott: Man City out to win back the title from Man United
Joleon Lescott warns Manchester United that he and his City team-mates are fully focused on prising the title away from them
Joleon Lescott has warned Manchester United that he and his Manchester City team-mates are fully focused on prising the Premier League title away from their local rivals this season.
The Citizens saw United win their 20th top-flight crown at a canter last term as Roberto Mancini’s men relinquished their title back in April.
But defender Lescott is confident that City, under new boss Manuel Pellegrini, will be able to win back the trophy they claimed in such dramatic fashion in 2011-12.
“Our main goal this season is to win the title back,” Lescott told talkSPORT.
“We want to achieve and we want to progress. We feel we’ve done that over the previous few years. Last year was probably the only time we didn’t really feel we progressed as much as we would have liked.
“It hurts not winning the Premier League and it probably hurts a little bit more that it was Manchester United that took it from us but the determination is still there and the desire and hunger.
“We were disappointed not to win and we weren’t too far away. We know that in certain periods of the season we didn’t play as well as we can and that’s the thing, consistency throughout the season.”
