Jose Enrique believes Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge can finish as the Premier League’s top goal scorer this season.

The 23-year-old scored the winner in the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday after netting in Liverpool’s opening day win against Stoke City at Anfield.

Sturridge has now scored eight goals in his last seven top-flight appearances for the Reds, and Enrique reckons the January signing has all the attributes to be a top striker.

“It was an amazing goal from Danny,” Enrique told the Liverpool Echo.

“I’ll be claiming the assist, but really the goal was all down to Danny. Philippe left the ball for him, and he did all the rest.

“The manager said last week Danny can be one of the top strikers in this league and I agree. The longer he stays in this form, the better it is for us.

“He is a top player and I think he can challenge to be the top scorer in the league this season. If he has luck with injuries and continues in this form then he will be right up there.

“For me, he has everything you want from a striker. He is quick, he is strong and can play with both feet.”

Sturridge has scored 12 goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Liverpool following his £12m switch to the Reds from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
