Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge looks very sharp, says Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers warns the Reds' rivals that Daniel Sturridge is looking "very, very sharp" after his return to training
Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is looking “very, very sharp” after the Englishman’s return from injury.
The 23-year-old took a full part in the club’s open training session at Anfield on Monday after picking up an ankle injury in England’s 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland in May.
Sturridge scored 10 goals in 14 Premier League appearances for Liverpool after Rodgers signed the forward in a £12m deal from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
And the Liverpool manager, who led his side to a seventh-place finish in his first season at the Reds, was impressed with how sharp the striker looked as Sturridge continues his comeback from the ankle problem.
“Thankfully Daniel had his first training session today with the team and I thought he looked very, very sharp,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website.
“He obviously had an injury at the end of the season which set him back, but he’s worked very hard along with the medical guys who have done a great job with him.
“It’s a great testament to him he’s kept himself fit and it was just waiting for the right time to introduce him.”
