Liverpool’s Joe Allen hails the Reds’ ‘quality’ attacking options

Joe Allen believes Liverpool have much better attacking options than at the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

The Reds struggled to breakdown Premier League opponents in the early part of Brendan Rodgers’ reign as the Merseyside outfit were forced to rely on talisman Luis Suárez.

However, the Liverpool manager recruited Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window, while he’s also signed Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas this summer.

And Allen, who joined in a £15m deal from Swansea City in 2012, reckons Liverpool can pose a real attacking threat this term.

“Maybe that was a slight problem last year in that we didn’t quite get the players we wanted in time and it left the squad a bit bare at times,” Allen told the Independent.

“There were a lot of games, especially early on in the season, when we didn’t quite get the breakthrough goal.

“But with the quality that has been brought in to add to the quality we already have, you can see the attacking way we want to play and we are reaping the rewards of that.

“This season we have had the chance to get players in early, which has been great to allow us to have a full pre-season working together.

“If we have any injuries or suspensions we have players who can step in and do the job just as well, so I think the signs are really positive in those regards.”
