Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers reveals he is still hoping to bolster his squad with "one or two" new signings
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he is still hoping to bolster his Liverpool squad with “one or two” new signings this summer.
The Reds have so far recruited Iago Aspas, Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet and Luis Alberto this summer as the Northern Irishman tries to assemble a squad capable of breaking back into the top four.
Liverpool have been linked with moves for Valencia defender Aly Cissokho and Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian in recent days.
But although Rodgers says there is “nothing imminent” to report on the transfer front, he is sure there will be some more new arrivals on Merseyside before the deadline on 3 September.
“In every way the group is stronger and we still hope to add one or two more before the window closes,” said Rodgers.
“There are a number of players we’ve been linked with but nothing imminent.
“We’ve got players to come back, we’ll add players before the window closes, so the momentum over pre-season has been good.
“Everyone has adapted now to our way of working, and there’s a lot more stability around the club.
“I believe we’ll be ready to put up a good challenge or, as I said earlier in pre-season, be in the conversation this year.”
Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss refused to be drawn into the speculation over Luis Suárez’s future at the club.
