Liverpool transfers: Cavani criticises Rodgers’ handling of Suárez saga
Liverpool transfers: PSG striker Edinson Cavani insists Luis Suárez has shown the Reds loyalty despite Brendan Rodgers' criticism
Edinson Cavani has slammed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for the Northern Irishman’s comments about Luis Suárez’s lack of loyalty.
The Reds manager on Saturday admitted the Uruguay international would need to apologise to his team-mates and rediscover his 100 per cent commitment for the club before returning to first-team training.
Last week, the 26-year-old expressed his desire to leave the Merseyside outfit and join a club playing in the Champions League after Liverpool limped to a seventh-place finish last season.
And Suárez’s compatriot Cavani insists the Reds striker showed loyalty to his employers last summer by spurning interest from Serie A champions Juventus and remaining at Anfield.
“The Liverpool coach can talk about loyalty and disrespect, but maybe he needs to look up what it means,” Cavani is quoted as saying in the Mirror.
“Luis had the chance last year to join a big club like Juventus, who went on to win the league in Italy, but, instead, he chose to stay and fight with Liverpool. Now, that’s what you call loyalty.
“I’ve known about his agreement with Liverpool and understood that he would be leaving, if they were not playing in the Champions League.”
