Liverpool transfers: Will Hughes will cost more than £6m, say Derby
Liverpool transfers: Derby County manager Nigel Clough says Reds target Will Hughes will cost more than £6m
Nigel Clough says Derby County value Will Hughes in excess of £6m amid interest from Liverpool.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a move for the England Under-21 international in recent weeks after being left frustrated in his pursuit of big-name signings.
The 18-year-old midfielder rose to prominence following a promising return of two goals in 35 top-flight appearances for the Rams last season.
But Clough warned his former club Liverpool – and any other potential suitors – that Derby will be looking for a “substantial” offer before the
Championship side consider selling Hughes.
“Nobody knows what we want or what the fee is going to be come the time, because we have not got a specific valuation in mind,” Clough told the Derby Telegraph.
“Would it be more than £6m? Yes, I think it is fair to say that.
“We just think it is going to be a very, very substantial figure to tempt him away. We’ve had no bids or contact from anybody.
“If someone comes in through the front door and makes an official enquiry or bid, we will have to react to it.
“Unless there is somebody sitting there with an awful lot of money burning a hole in their pocket I cannot see it changing.”
