Liverpool will be recovered for Man United, insists Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers insists the Reds will be ready for Manchester United after a tough League Cup encounter
Brendan Rodgers has insisted Liverpool will be recovered for Manchester United’s visit to Anfield after a close call in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The Reds surged into a two-goal lead courtesy of strikes from Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge before Notts County remarkably levelled to force the tie into extra time.
By that stage, Liverpool had already lost on-loan left-back Aly Cissokho, Wales international Joe Allen and experienced centre-half Kolo Toure to injuries.
However, Sturridge and second-half substitute Jordan Henderson managed to both net to secure the Merseyside outfit’s passage into the third round ahead of the north-west derby against United on Sunday.
“We’ve got plenty of recovery time now for the players,” Rodgers said.
“That was the idea – that I could put some of the senior guys in knowing there was enough recuperation period after the game, and obviously to give our young players good experience playing in a competitive game.
“Young Jordon Ibe is 17, Raheem 18 and Andre Wisdom 20 years of age.”
He added: “They’ll all be fine, they’ll recover well and we’ll be excited now looking forward to that game on Sunday.
“We’ll assess the injuries tomorrow but we’ll just see what players are available for us.
“There’s no doubt we need more numbers but it’s about quality – hopefully we can bring that quality in.”
