Man City 2 Hull City 0: Manuel Pellegrini admits the Citizens were made to work hard for their slender victory
Manuel Pellegrini admitted Manchester City were made to work hard for three points after the Citizens secured an unconvincing 2-0 victory over Hull City at The Etihad.
After a goalless first half, the City manager replaced Edin Dzeko and introduced Álvaro Negredo, and the Spanish striker scored his second Premier League goal since moving to England from Sevilla.
City midfielder Yaya Toure secured three points with a superb free-kick on the stroke of full-time, his second of the 2013/14 campaign, to help the Citizens bounce back from last weekend’s shock loss at Cardiff City.
“It was hard work, every match is going to be hard work,” Pellegrini told BBC Sport.
“Hull defended very well. We know you have to give 100% to win every match but I think today that we were more concentrated in defence than the last game against Cardiff.”
Toure added: “It was quite difficult playing against a very good opponent, but we continued to push on and the two goals were deserved.
“We know this year is going to be difficult as every team that comes here will make it difficult, but in the second half we were much better than in the first.”
