Man City transfers: Manuel Pellegrini hints at possible defensive signings
Man City transfers: Manuel Pellegrini hints the Citizens may look to bolster their defence ahead of the new Premier League season
Manuel Pellegrini has hinted Manchester City may look to bolster their defence before the end of the current transfer window.
The Citizens suffered a surprise 3-1 loss to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly in Helsinki on Saturday night, prompting concerns to be raised about City’s leaky defence.
Pellegrini has signed Spanish duo Álvaro Negredo and Jesús Navas in the current transfer window, as well as Brazilian Fernandinho and Stevan Jovetic.
However, the Chilean, who has replaced Roberto Mancini, is yet to recruit any defenders after seeking to address the club’s lack of goals last season.
Following the defeat by the Gunners, Pellegrini suggested City could still sign defenders this month.
“We had problems defending and we will try to improve this week,” said the Chilean following City’s defeat in Helsinki, Finland,” said Pellegrini.
“If we buy someone, then OK. But, otherwise, we have a good squad. But, yes, we have conceded many goals, we will have to find ways to change this.
“You are always concerned when you are 3-0 down but we lost in pre-season.
“We did not lose three points and that is important. We will be at our best for the Premier League.”
