Man United boss David Moyes gives Jonny Evans & Nani injury update
Manchester United manager David Moyes gives an update on the fitness of Jonny Evans and Nani after Tuesday's friendly
David Moyes says Manchester United duo Jonny Evans and Nani were substituted during their 1-1 draw with AIK Fotboll as a precautionary measure.
Nani was replaced in the first half due to a tight hamstring, while the Northern Ireland international picked up a knock on his ankle and was forced off
after the interval.
“Jonny actually got kneed on the ankle. He thought that he was going to be able to run it off. But if we left him on then it would only have got worse for him,” Moyes told United’s website.
“Nani just felt his groin tighten up and he didn’t want to take any risks. Neither did we. We thought it was safer to take him off at that time.”
Robin Quaison had given AIK the lead before Angelo Henriquez levelled in the 68th minute after converting Wilfried Zaha’s cross past the Swedish goalkeeper.
And following the win, Moyes expressed his delight that Nemanja Vidic was able to finish the friendly, as well as Robin van Persie.
“[Nemanja] was probably the big thing for us, to get him through the full game,” added Moyes. “Robin as well – he got 90 minutes. Robin has played in some of the other games but we wanted to make sure he had 90 minutes under his belt. So a few of them did that.
“It was a tough enough workout for us and they played some good stuff. If we had taken our chances then we would have won the game.”
