Man United not worried by Chelsea & Man City signings, says Giggs
Manchester United's Ryan Giggs says the Red Devils aren't worried by the spending of Chelsea and Manchester City this summer
Ryan Giggs insists Manchester United aren’t worried about how much Chelsea and Manchester City have spent in summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have yet to make any signings of note since lifting the Premier League trophy in May, with Guillermo Valera the sole new arrival at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, City have spent in excess of £70m as Sevilla duo Álvaro Negredo and Jesús Navas moved to the Citizens, plus Fernandinho and Stevan Jovetic.
Chelsea have also snapped up Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schürrle in big-money deals as Jose Mourinho looks to build a side capable of challenging United.
“Obviously Mourinho has come into Chelsea and City are spending quite a bit of money, but it is not something we are worried about,” Giggs told PA Sport.
“We are the champions. We know it’s not easy to defend the trophy, but we have experienced it before and we will try to do it again this season. The quality is in the squad. We showed
that last year. Now we have to show it again.”
Giggs added United were thrilled to start their season in style by beating Wigan Athletic to win the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.
“It’s always nice to win the Community Shield. It’s a good start to the season. It’s good for the new manager and everyone else concerned – we have started the season with a trophy,” he added.
“It was a lot of the players’ first time to win it and obviously the manager’s. We wanted to win it and put on a good show.”
