Man United transfers: Pique confirms ‘Fábregas is staying’
Man United transfers: Gerard Pique insists that Cesc Fábregas has made up his mind to stay at Barcelona beyond the summer
Gerard Pique has insisted that Cesc Fábregas has made up his mind to stay at Barcelona beyond the summer, despite interest from Manchester United.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been the subject of two bids from the Premier League champions, who are keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.
The Red Devils were thought to be weighing up a third offer for the former Arsenal captain in an attempt to lure him back to the Premier League.
But his Barcelona team-mate says that the Spain international has his heart set on staying at the Catalan club.
“He’s always been relaxed about the situation,” said Pique.
“It’s normal for a player of his qualities to receive offers, but I can confirm that he is staying.
“That’s always been his dream and I’m very glad that he is staying. I don’t think he’s ever been in doubt.”
And Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta added: “He [Fábregas] is indisputable, like everyone else in the squad.
“He’s fundamental to this team, he has performed very well for us so far and is going to do the same again next season.”
