Man United transfers: ‘Shinji Kagawa not interested in Dortmund return’
Man United transfers: Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says Shinji Kagawa is not interested in a return
Shinji Kagawa is not interested in a return to Borussia Dortmund, according to the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
The Champions League runners-up had been linked with a move for the Japan international after losing Mario Gotze to bitter rivals Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
Kagawa, who joined United in a £17m deal from Dortmund in 2012, managed a disappointing six goals and made three assists in 20 Premier League appearances last season.
Dortmund supporters had set up an online petition in a bid to secure Kagawa’s return, but Zorc revealed BVB made an enquiry but it was rejected by both United and the player.
“After the departure of Mario Götze was certain, of course, our first idea was to assess how things stand in the case Shinji Kagawa,” Zorc is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
“Shinji has always said that he would someday return to Dortmund, but after a call, it was clear that neither the player nor Manchester United were interested in an exchange at this time.”
Kagawa is yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement David Moyes after been giving time off following his participation in the Confederations Cup during the summer.
