Man United transfers: ‘Whispers are Gareth Bale is Red Devils-bound’
Man United transfers: Former Red Devils star Mickey Thomas says whispers around Old Trafford suggest Gareth Bale is set to join
Former Manchester United winger Mickey Thomas has revealed there are “whispers” around Old Trafford suggesting Gareth Bale is set to move to the Red Devils.
On Monday, speculation emerged claiming Tottenham Hotspur are considering more than one offer for the Wales international after Real Madrid appeared to be clear favourites to land Bale in a world-record £86m deal.
And the ex-United star revealed there is a quiet belief around the Premier League champions that the PFA player and young player of the year could be set to snub Madrid and join the Red Devils this summer.
“The whispers around [Manchester United] are that he’s Old Trafford-bound,” Thomas is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
“That might be more in hope than anything else but it could happen, because by all accounts Real Madrid have not got all the money to put down for
Gareth Bale and by all accounts they owe money [to Spurs] for Luka Modric.”
Following United’s goalless draw with Chelsea on Monday night, Moyes was tight-lipped on speculation suggesting the Red Devils were the touted second club in the race to sign the Totteham talisman.
“I said at the start when I got the job that Manchester United will always be interested in the best players,” Moyes told Sky Sports.
“We’re always looking to try and improve the team. The owners have given me every opportunity to bring in whoever I want, so we’ll continue to try and find those players.
“It’s been tough in this window, I’ve got to say. But we’re always looking at the best players.”
