‘Man United’s Nani must respond to Wilfried Zaha challenge’

Quinton Fortune has urged Manchester United winger Nani to prove his worth to new manager David Moyes after Wilfried Zaha’s impressive pre-season performances.

The Portugal international has been provided the chance to turnaround his stalling Old Trafford career after falling out-of-favour under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

United’s new signing Zaha has been the recipient of lavish praise from Moyes since linking up with the Reds Devils, with the England international providing competition for Nani and Antonio Valencia.

And former United midfielder Fortune believes Nani needs to respond to the challenge laid down by Zaha, starting with the club’s final pre-season game against AIK Fotboll in Sweden on Tuesday.

“We also have Rio’s Testimonial and the Community Shield so we’ve got games coming up and it’s very simple – you have got to play well to make it difficult for the manager,” Fortune told United’s website.

“The boys are in good shape and can push on with another 90 minutes.

“It always tends to happen when you bring in another player in the same position that the player already there seems to raise his level so it’s good that Zaha has been outstanding.

“He has done everything you want a new player to do now and it’s down to Nani to compete with him. It’s great because you want to see that competition and players pushing each other to impress the manager.

“So it’s a great opportunity for Nani tonight.”
