Man City’s Edin Dzeko: Stevan Jovetić is right signing for Citizens
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko says Stevan Jovetić is the "right reinforcement" to help the Citizens improve this season
Edin Dzeko has backed Manchester City’s new signing Stevan Jovetić ahead of the club’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Monday.
The Montenegrin midfielder completed a £22m move to the Citizens in July after months of speculation linking the Fiorentina midfielder with Arsenal, Chelsea and the Eastlands outfit.
The 23-year-old sparkled for La Viola last season as he scored 13 goals in 31 appearances, with the Florence outfit narrowly missing out on a top-three finish and Champions League football.
And Dzeko, who joined the Citizens from Wolfsburg in 2011, believes Jovetić will raise the Bosnia-Herzegovina international’s performances next season under Manuel Pellegrini.
“We all know how Jovetic played in Italy,” Dzeko told Anadolija.
“He’s the right reinforcement for our team. He plays close to me and I’m very happy because of that.
“I believe that we’ll work well together. He already feels at home. It was easy for him to adapt as he has me, Matija (Nastasic) and Aleksandar (Kolarov) here.”
Dzeko, who scored 14 goals last season, added Pellegrini’s men are prepared for the new season, insisting the club are ready to improve both domestically and in Europe.
“We are fully prepared for what is coming,” added Dzeko.
“Day by day, we’re getting better. We’ve made some new signings, who are quality players.
“We all hope to do better in the Premier League and also the Champions League. We have to do better in Europe this season.”
