Owen & more: Twitter reacts to Man United’s bid for Baines & Fellaini
Michael Owen and Michael Gray tweet their thoughts after Everton reject Man United's £28m bid for Leighton Baines & Marouane Fellaini
Everton have rejected a £28m bid from Manchester United for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini.
Red Devils boss David Moyes signed both players during his 11-year reign as Toffees boss before taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford this summer.
Here are a few tweets from the professionals, past and present, to United’s audacious bid for the Belgian and left-back.
Crawly Town midfielder James Hurst (@hursty43) doesn’t think much of the bid: “Worst bid I’ve seen. Fellaini cost £15m and they’ve already bid £12m for Baines.”
Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) gives his thoughts on the bid: “So, United make a £28m joint bid for Fellaini and Baines. No surprise that Everton reject the offer. Could surely get nearer to £40m for them? I rate both players highly. Baines would slot in perfectly but I’d question slightly whether Fellaini’s style would suit United. This transfer window could be good fun. Once one big player moves it could signal an avalanche of transfers.”
Ex-Sunderland midfielder Michael Gray (@mickygray33) reckons Southampton’s Luke Shaw is a better option: “Everton reject £28m for Fellaini & Baines..!!! Not sure United need both.. Luke Shaw is young and going to be the best around #player”
Former Middlesbrough midfielder Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) can’t understand the logic of the offer: “Everton bought Fellaini for £17.5m. Now Man United have offered £16m for him…? So he has become a worse player…”
Finally, celebrity United supporter Eamonn Holmes (@EamonnHolmes) gives a fan’s perspective: “Everton have just turned down a combined £24m bid from Man United for Fellaini and Baines.Have to say just right -bit of a cheek United… Everton now confirming that Man United bid for Fellaini and Baines was £28m – still rejected . Will they bite at £30m plus?”
