Petr Cech believes Jose Mourinho is “happy” with how his new Chelsea squad have responded to the Portuguese coach’s return to Stamford Bridge.

The 50-year-old signed a four-year deal to take over at the west London club back in June after leaving Real Madrid, and has overseen six victories in his seven pre-season games this summer.

And Cech believes the Blues squad have responded well to the new coaching set-up as they gear up for their Premier League opener against Hull City on Sunday.

“It was a very successful pre-season, with new players and a new coaching staff, and everybody had to get to know each other and gel,” Cech told Chelsea’s website.

“We had enough time to do that and hopefully it will show in the first game against Hull at the weekend.

“The team has got together and worked very hard, meeting our objectives step by step, so I think the manager and coaching staff are happy with what they’ve seen and the way things are going.

“They know what they expect and what we want to achieve, so everybody is happy.”
