Rodgers: Liverpool’s Sturridge one of top strikers in Premier League
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hails Daniel Sturridge as one of the top strikers in the Premier League
Brendan Rodgers has hailed Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge as one of the “top strikers” in the Premier League after the forward’s winner at Villa Park.
The England international, who moved to Anfield a £12m deal from Chelsea in the January transfer window, scored a 21st-minute goal to help the Reds seal three points in a 1-0 win against Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old has now netted 13 goals in 17 top-flight appearances for the Merseyside outfit, developing an exciting strike partnership with fellow January signing Philippe Coutinho.
And Rodgers rates Sturridge as one of the Premier League’s best finishers after the former Blues forward netted his second goal of the 2013/14 campaign.
“Daniel is a player I believe will prove when he is fit and playing that he is one of the top strikers in this division,” said Rodgers. “He has all the attributes – he’s super quick, has a wonderful touch, a great mover and you saw his finishing and composure today.
“He just needed an opportunity. I’ve seen him since he was a young player. He’s had a couple of difficult moves, but it was just about providing him with an opportunity and he’s really grown into the club since he came in January.
“His goals-to-games record is terrific so far. He just needs to keep working, keep his focus and he’ll do very well, I’m sure.”
