Brad Friedel insists that the Tottenham squad have not been paying much attention to the Gareth Bale transfer saga this summer.

The speculation surrounding the 24-year-old’s future has been one of this summer’s dominant transfer stories, with reports claiming that the Wales international is now on the verge of a £86m move to Real Madrid.

However, goalkeeper Friedel says that he and his Spurs team-mates have not been distracted by the continuing uncertainty over Bale’s situation following the start of the new season.

“I don’t take any notice of the speculation,” Friedel told talkSPORT. “There is always so much of it I don’t take any notice until a player walks out or walks in.

“We don’t all sit there watching Sky Sports News all day. We have jobs to do and games to win. It really isn’t that big of an issue for the players, more so for the board and the staff.”

The veteran shot-stopper also believes that Bale is in a “win-win” situation as he edges closer to a move to La Liga.

“In any job, if you know a person is a good lad and they have a great opportunity, most people would welcome that [and wish them well],” he continued. “But he has a great opportunity here as well. He’s in a win-win situation.”
