Edwin van der Sar believes Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad should the Dane secure a move to White Hart Lane.

The Denmark international spoke of his desire to leave the Eredivisie champions earlier this summer as he seeks a new challenge following five seasons at the Amsterdam Arena.

The 21-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 46 appearances last season, was reported to be a target of Liverpool and Manchester City at various stages over the past six months.

And former Manchester United goalkeeper Van Der Sar believes Eriksen is a top-quality player who would improve any side.

“He’s a very good player and I would be sorry if he were to leave us,” said Van der Sar.

“He has great quality, he is two-footed, is very quick, gives you a lot of pace on the ball and his corners and free kicks are very good, so I’m sure that if he went to Tottenham, he would be a great player there.”

Eriksen, capped 37 times by Denmark, has scored 25 goals in 112 appearances for Ajax.
