Tottenham transfers: Real Madrid tight-lipped on Gareth Bale speculation
Tottenham transfers: Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti refuses to comment on speculation linking them with Gareth Bale
Carlo Ancelotti has refused to talk about Real Madrid’s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas criticised Ancelotti for his part in the incessant speculation linking the Wales international with a move to the La Liga runners-up this summer.
Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a world-record £100m bid for the 24-year-old despite Tottenham’s insistence the PFA player and young player of the year is not for sale.
“I won’t speak about Bale, because I have already angered him [Villas-Boas] and I don’t want to anger another coach,” said Ancelotti.
“I didn’t say anything in particular and I prefer not to talk about this.”
Earlier on Monday, Tottenham director Sir Keith Mills admitted Spurs could struggle to keep Bale if the Spurs forward has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
“We very much want Bale to stay,” Mills said.
“[But] if a player is desperate to leave, it’s very difficult to force him to stay.
“We’ve seen it in other clubs. Even if he has a contract, you can’t force somebody to play for you.”
