Andre Villas-Boas was full of praise for Gylfi Sigurdsson after the Iceland international fired Tottenham to victory over Norwich City on Saturday.

Sigurdsson scored either side of half-time to hand Spurs the three points as the north London club returned to winning ways following their defeat at Arsenal.

And Villas-Boas revealed his delight at seeing the 24-year-old find the net, and also praised new signing Christian Eriksen following an impressive White Hart Lane debut by the former Ajax man.

“Siggy was exhausted in the end,” said Villas-Boas. “He really put himself forward to play. He was struggling with an injury he picked up for Iceland, so good for him.”

“He’s been so unlucky finding the back of the net and to do it twice is so pleasing for him.

“He wanted that hat-trick. I’m truly happy for him, he really deserves that for the professional he is.

“We had great performances from both Gylfi and Christian after both played for Iceland and Denmark.”
