Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: We can win Premier League title
Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes the Premier League is a realistic target for the Gunners this season
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists Arsenal are Premier League title contenders this season.
The Gunners received a major boost on deadline day after Germany international Mesut Ozil completed a £42.5m switch to The Emirates from Real Madrid.
Arsenal have won back-to-back games in the English top-flight against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur after a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.
And Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined from Southampton in 2010, is adamant the north London side are in with a chance of lifting England’s top prize at the end of the season.
“We’ve been contenders ever since I came to Arsenal. Or at least that’s the feeling in the squad. We really think we can take the title,” Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, told the Daily Telegraph.
“Obviously it hasn’t happened in recent seasons. But in the form we showed at the end of last season, and – when I was watching from the sidelines – in the spirit we’ve shown at the start of this, in the derby, everyone was fighting for each other.
“That team spirit, you can’t buy it. That, along with our manager and the signings, I’m full of optimism that this season can be a good one.
“We think we can win the title. Just like we believe we can win every competition we’re in. If you don’t believe that, then you don’t deserve to be at Arsenal.”
