‘Arsenal’s Ozil excited to link up with Mertesacker & Podolski’
Mustafa Ozil says his son is looking forward to linking up with Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at Arsenal
Mesut Ozil is very excited to be linking up with his Germany team-mates Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at Arsenal, according to the midfielder’s father.
The 24-year-old became Arsenal’s club-record signing on Monday after completing a £42.5m switch to the north London side from La Liga runners-up Real Madrid.
Ozil, who has penned a five-year deal at The Emirates, was team-mates with Mertesacker at Werder Breman between 2006 and 2010 before moving to Madrid.
And the playmaker’s father, Mustafa, says Arsenal’s new signing is relishing the chance to play with the giant defender and Podolski.
“He is very happy to play with both of them,” Ozil senior told Arsenal’s website.
“But he also welcomes the rest of the squad. The transfer to Arsenal is the best thing he could do.”
Ozil’s father also believes his son won’t struggle making the transition from La Liga to the Premier League.
“I would not see it as tougher than in Spain,” he continued.
“La Liga teams do not play with less players and they also play twice every week. He is physically prepared for that.”
Finally, Ozil senior promised the former Los Blancos star would do everything in his power to help end Arsenal’s eight-year trophy drought.
“Arsenal is a very big club,” he added.
“The club tried hard to sign Mesut and he has a great perspective there. Mesut wants to help the club to bring in some silverware. We appreciate the interest of such a big coach like Arsene Wenger.”
