Arsenal transfers: Ángel Di María pleased with decision to stay
Arsenal transfers: Ángel Di María feels he made the right decision to stay on at Real Madrid this summer
Arsenal target Ángel Di María feels he made the right decision to stay on at Real Madrid despite receiving offers during the transfer window.
The Argentina international was linked with a move away from Los Blancos during the course of the summer, with the Gunners reportedly interested in bringing the midfielder to the Premier League.
But the 25-year-old says he is pleased with his choice to stay at the club despite having the option to leave, because he feels valued by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“The coach has faith in me and that makes me happy and my family too, which is important,” Di María told Fox Sports Radio. “That’s why I’ve decided to stay.”
Di María was reported to be close to leaving the club over the summer and his days looked numbered with the arrival of Gareth Bale, but Ancelotti included him in his starting line-up for the league meetings with Granada and Athletic Club.
His role within the team has changed under Ancelotti who has switched him over to the right wing, giving him freedom to cut inside and use his favoured left foot.
Di María says he feels comfortable playing on either flank and has no problem reverting back to his natural position on the left with the Argentina national side.
Di María has scored 18 goals in 92 La Liga appearances following his €36m (£31m) move to Madrid from Benfica in 2011.
