Arsenal transfers: Wenger ready to pay over the odds to land stars
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger insists he is prepared to splash the cash in order to add "super quality" to his Gunners squad

Arsene Wenger insists he is prepared to splash the cash in order to add “super quality” to Arsenal’s squad before Monday night’s transfer deadline.
Wenger watched his side secure their second straight league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over local rivals Tottenham – and then declared his intention to strengthen his squad, even if it means paying above the market value to land the top talent.
“I am not against spending money, but I want to add super quality to our squad,” said Wenger.
“Tottenham got a lot of money for Gareth Bale, they have to invest it – I understand that. The need is different for us, we need one or two super players and we will try to add that.
“We have 24 more hours, so maybe we can surprise you. Maybe not – but I am confident.”
Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid – either on loan or on a permanent deal.
The Gunners have also been linked with late swoops for Chelsea striker Demba Ba and Schalke youngster Julian Draxler.
Wenger added: “I am ready to pay what we can afford, even if it is a bit over the market [value] and as long as it is not crazy. I am not against spending.”
