Arsenal transfers: Theo Walcott expects deadline-day deals
Arsenal transfers: Theo Walcott is fully expecting Arsenal to bring in a number of new players before Monday's deadline
Theo Walcott is fully expecting Arsenal to bring in a number of new players before Monday night’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners have so far only signed Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini on free transfers this summer but have been linked with late moves for Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria in recent days.
Walcott, who helped Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0 on Sunday, admits he will be following proceedings closely on Monday before the 2300BST deadline – but has backed Arsene Wenger to get the “right players” in.
“We’re very aware of it all, we’re like everyone else,” said Walcott.
“We don’t really know what’s going on but I’m sure the manager has something up his sleeve and I’m sure something will happen.
“I’ll be glued to the TV. We’ll see what happens. It’s completely out of our hands, but we know the boss will get the right players in.
“It is well documented that the squad is low at the moment but I’m sure when we play like that we can attract a few more players.
“It’s always good to have competition in your position, you always get something out of it.
“You want that, you want that competition, you want to be against the best players, you want to learn from the best players that come to Arsenal.
“You’re not going to get an average player coming to Arsenal, the boss is going to pick them. I’m quietly confident that we’ll get a few in, definitely.”
