‘Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger will get 15-20% more out of Mesut Ozil’
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will get 15 to 20 per cent more out of new signing Mesut Ozil, according to the midfielder's father
Arsene Wenger can squeeze an extra “15 to 20 per cent” more from new signing Mesut Ozil, according to the Germany international’s father.
The 24-year-old penned a five-year deal with the Gunners on Monday after Arsenal forked out a club-record £42.5m to secure Ozil’s services from La Liga giants Real Madrid on deadline day.
The former Werder Bremen star was already considered one of Europe’s most exciting playmakers after making 71 assists and scoring 27 goals during three seasons in the Spanish capital.
But the German midfielder’s father, Mustafa, is confident Arsenal’s experienced manager Wenger will be able to get the best out of his son in the Premier League.
“Of course, I do. Mesut is still not at his top level. I’m sure there is still 15 to 20 percent to get out of him and Mr Wenger will help him to do that,” Ozil’s father told Arsenal’s website.
Ozil’s father believes his will have no problems settling at the north London side, especially as Wenger is a fluent German speaker, as well as the presence of compatriots Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski in the Gunners squad.
He added: “He was one of the deciding persons to convince us. It’s also very helpful that he speaks German well.
“But that’s not all. He also told us about his plans with the team and especially with Mesut. He wants him to play a big role in midfield.”
