Arsene Wenger has revealed that Tomas Rosicky is close to returning from the hamstring injury he picked up on international duty earlier this month.

The Czech Republic midfielder has not featured for the Gunners since the 1-0 win over Tottenham at the start of the month but could return to the squad for next week’s Champions League clash with Napoli.

“Rosicky is the first back [of all the injured players], but not in time for this week,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website.

“Next week we will start to speak about that. He could come back in the squad for Sunday or Monday.”

Wenger, who also confirmed that goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is available for Wednesday’s League Cup trip to West Bromwich Albion, revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski are on their way towards full fitness.

“It’s fine, they are doing well but they are nowhere near ready,” he said. “The next one back [of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Podolski] might be Lukas. Alex will be one-and-a-half months more.

“Fabianski will be alright [to start on Wednesday]. He had a nasal problem but he will be alright. Fabianski and Viviano are the two goalkeepers in the squad.”

Wenger also confirmed that Theo Walcott is out of action until mid-October, with the forward set to undergo abdominal surgery on Wednesday.
