Andre Schürrle has admitted he was nervous making his Chelsea debut in the club’s season-opener against Hull City last month.

The Germany international joined the Blues in a £18m deal from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window following Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge in June.

Schürrle made his debut in a 2-0 victory over Hull City in Chelsea’s curtain raiser before starting the club’s goalless draw at Manchester United and the loss to Bayern Munich on penalties in the Uefa Super Cup.

And the 22-year-old revealed as a long-term Blues supporter, he was nervous about making his Chelsea bow.

“I was a fan of this club when I was young – I had shirts and stuff – and I’m a member of the squad. I’m really enjoying being a Chelsea player,” said Schürrle.

He added: “I was a bit nervous when I came to the stadium – to feel the atmosphere and see the fans for the first time in the stadium – but after five or 10 minutes on the pitch it was perfect.”

Meanwhile, Marco van Ginkel, who joined the Blues in a £9m deal from Vitesse Arnhem this summer, admitted it was a dream come true to seal a move to the west London club.

“If you are a young boy, you want to play in the Premier League for a club like Chelsea. It is a great feeling to play here at this club with these supporters – I’m very happy to be here,” added the Dutch midfielder.
