Joe Hart Collected a few loose balls but was not tested throughout the 90 minutes. Will have appreciated a night out of the spotlight. 6/10

Kyle Walker Strong going forward and provided decent back up to Walcott. But as a result of his attacking endeavours, he left acres of space at the back that will surely be utilised by opponents of higher quality. 6

Gary Cahill No sign of the nerves that he showed against Scotland. Was under little pressure throughout and got forward to good effect. 7

Phil Jagielka A quiet yet efficient performance from the Everton man. Was not presented with a real test and left it to his central partner to attack from the back. 6

Ashley Cole Very positive throughout his 45-minute appearance. Ably assisted by Welbeck on the left-hand side and never looked like getting caught out at the back. 6

Steven Gerrard His fantastic 20-yard goal opened the scoring but the captain sat deep in the midfield and produced a rather subdued, yet disciplined performance. 7

Jack Wilshere A constant headache for the Moldova back four. Saw an early shot saved and acted as an energetic bridge between midfield and attack. Plenty more to come from him. 7

Frank Lampard One of the liveliest games of his recent career. Looked as spritely as his young midfield partner and got the assist for Gerrard’s opener. 8

Theo Walcott Peppered the Moldova penalty area with crosses and looked dangerous throughout. Set up Lambert for England’s second but faded as the match progressed. 7

Rickie Lambert (Man of the match) – Scored his second goal in as many England games with an opportunistic header but his work away from goal was his outstanding contribution. Twice became the provider for Welbeck to cap a fine performance. 9

Danny Welbeck As was the case against Scotland, his work in tight spaces is second to none. A deft touch brought down a high ball to skip past the keeper for his first and a delightful chipped finish got him a second. His unwarranted yellow card sees him miss the trip to Ukraine. 9

Substitutes

Leighton Baines – Strolled up and down the left flank without facing any real opposition. 5

Ross Barkley N/A

James Milne Missed a glorious chance in acres of space on the edge of the six-yard box in the dying seconds. N/A

Moldova

Stanislav Namasco Roy Keane described the Moldovan stopper’s performance as “disgraceful”. Looked nervous throughout and flapped at pretty much anything that came within 10 yards of his goal. 2

Igor Armaș Unable to handle the combined threat of Welbeck and Cole and offered nothing in attack. 4

Victor Golovatenco Hard to pin-point any contribution to match at all. Was kept quiet by the joint efforts of Walcott and Walker. 3

Alexandru Epureanu Painfully exposed for both Welbeck’s goals and will not be rushing to watch the highlights. 3

Artur Ioniță Was substituted in the 19th minute and the rest of his side might as well have joined him. N/A

Alexandru Antoniuc Could do little but watch as the fluid England midfield passed him by. 4

Alexandru Dedov Worked tirelessly up front but with little support his efforts went unrewarded. 5

Serghei Gheorghiev Could and probably should have capitalised on the space in behind Walker but rarely ventured out of his own half. 4

Simeon Bulgaru Kept occupied by Wilshere’s jerking runs and didn’t offer his side anything in the attacking half. 4

Vitalie Bordian Was understandably cautious about committing to getting forward and as a result remained anonymous throughout. 4

Eugen Sidorenco As good (or bad) as the rest of his side. Again, never looked liked testing the assured England defence. 3

Substitutes

Alexandru Onica Seemed hell bent on leaving his mark on any player in white that crossed his path. Possesses the defensive awareness of a blindfolded Titus Bramble and the tackling ability of Paul Scholes. 2

Alexandru Suvorov N/A
