England v Australia: Michael Clarke praises tourists’ display

England v Australia: Michael Clarke hails his side after a comfortable 88-run victory over the hosts at Old Trafford

By Callum Orr

Michael Clarke praised Australia’s all-round performance after a comfortable 88-run victory over England in the second one-day international at Old Trafford.

Clarke was the pick of the batsmen, posting an impressive 105 runs from 102 balls, whilst his bowlers dismissed England with six overs of the match to spare.

And the Australia captain was quick to pass the plaudits on to the rest of his side.

“England bowled pretty well up front on a good batting wicket, but all our boys did a fantastic job,” said the 32-year-old Clarke.

“To make over 300 was a really good score and all our bowlers executed.

“It’s nice to get a win and it’s a good start to this series for us, but there are three important games to go.”

Australia made their victory look easy and the skipper believes that the Old Trafford pitch played a major role as they strolled to victory.

“I’d like to play the next three one-dayers and every Test at Manchester, it’s a nice batting wicket.

“Mitchell Johnson bowled with really good pace on a good wicket, and hopefully it’s the start of a big series for him.”
