Gareth Bale: Transfer saga was stressful to say the least
Gareth Bale says the long-running transfer saga that preceded his world-record move to Real Madrid was "very stressful" for him
Gareth Bale admits that the long-running transfer saga that preceded his world-record move to Real Madrid was “very stressful” for him.
The 24-year-old was finally unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Monday after months of speculation over his future following Tottenham’s failure to finish in the top four last season.
Madrid paid a world-record fee of £85.3m to land the Tottenham winger, who scored 21 Premier League goals for the north Londoners last season.
But the former Southampton man has revealed that the long-drawn-out saga that dominated the summer was extremely stressful for him.
“It’s obviously been a whirlwind few days but it was great being unveiled,” Bale told BT Sport.
“It’s quite nice to come back and relax, and get back to normality really.”
“It’s been very stressful, to say the least. I knew they were interested from the start and I was always confident the move would go through but obviously the chairman, Daniel Levy, had to do his business and do Tottenham well so I kind of understood that.
“But at the same time, thinking of myself it was a hard time.
“It was stressful and I just had to be patient and try and focus and I believed they [Real Madrid] would get the deal through, and finally they did and it was great to be unveiled.”
