Gary Lineker has praised Tottenham for the way they have dealt with Gareth Bale’s world-record move to Real Madrid.

Spurs brought in a total of seven new players over the summer after the north Londoners splashed in excess of £100m on new signings as Bale sealed his move to Spain.

And former Tottenham striker Lineker has been thoroughly impressed by the manner in which Spurs have coped with the loss of Bale following their 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in the League Cup third round on Tuesday.

“It’s very interesting, at a time where they have lost a superstar player like Gareth Bale, that the optimism is still there because they have at least reinvested that money,” Lineker told talkSPORT.

“We often hear [from clubs] that they will put the money they get for a great player back into the side, but it doesn’t often happen.

“Spurs did it before they sold Gareth and there’s no question some of those players are top quality.

“Paulinho has settled in very quickly, [Erik] Lamela is starting to look the part and [Christian] Eriksen is a terrific talent – he could be one of the best signings of the lot.”
