Harry Redknapp says he would be “very surprised” if Tottenham didn’t finish above Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal were 1-0 winners in the north London derby on Sunday as Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners smashed their transfer record to bring in Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in a £42.5m deal on Monday following the arrivals of Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini on free transfers.

Spurs, however, have spent in excess of £100m this summer as they secured the services of Erik Lamela, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen late in the window following a host of new arrivals at White Hart Lane.

And former Tottenham boss Redknapp believes the Lilywhites have the best squad in the Premier League, despite the departure of Gareth Bale.

“It won’t be easy to get in Tottenham’s team with all the players now,” said Redknapp. “For me, it’s the best squad in the Premier League now.

“They’ve brought some outstanding players in and it’s a real strong squad there now. It’s amazing.

“The competition they have everywhere makes them so strong. I think they are going to be right up there this year. They’ve just taken Lamela from Roma for £30m, they have [Roberto] Soldado – it’s a real fantastic group of players.

“I see Spurs being much stronger than Arsenal this year. I would be very surprised if Spurs didn’t finish above Arsenal this year.

“It should have happened the last two years but this year I think they’ve really pushed on and bought well over the summer.”
