Jack Wilshere expressed his delight at lining up alongside Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as England thrashed Moldova at Wembley on Friday night.
The Arsenal midfielder was deployed alongside the experienced Liverpool and Chelsea men as Roy Hodgson’s side coasted to a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Gerrard, Rickie Lambert and a brace from Danny Welbeck.
And Wilshere, 21, was pleased with how he and his midfield partners performed during the routine World Cup qualifier win.
“I’ve grown up watching Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard play, and it was a pleasure to play in there with them,” Wilshere told Sky Sports News.
“It worked well. Me and Lamps were a bit higher, and Gerrard was playing the sort of quarterback role.
“That suits his game – he’s got a great passing range, and Lamps getting forward was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.”
