Liverpool defender Glen Johnson delivers injury update
Liverpool defender Glen Johnson reveals his ankle injury isn't as bad as first thought and the right-back could be set for an early return
Glen Johnson says his ankle injury isn’t as bad as first feared – and has hinted at an early return to action for Liverpool.
The 29-year-old picked up the knock in the second half of the Merseyside outfit’s 1-0 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester United earlier in September.
Johnson was initially expected to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks and the right-back missed England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine over the past week.
However, Johnson, who joined the Reds from Portsmouth in 2009, is optimistic that he could make a surprise return to action earlier than expected.
“Injury doesn’t seem as bad as first thought,” Johnson posted on his Twitter page.
“Hopefully be back sooner than originally expected! Thank you everyone for the ‘get well’ messages!!!”
The former West Ham United youth graduate scored once in 36 Premier League appearances for Liverpool last season.
