Jose Enrique believes Liverpool currently boast their best squad since the left-back moved to the Reds.

The uncapped Spaniard has been a member of the Liverpool playing staff since swapping Newcastle United for Anfield in the summer of 2011.

Brendan Rodgers signed eight players during the recent transfer window as the Northern Irishman looked to put together a squad capable of a top-four challenge.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League following an unbeaten start to the season, and Enrique revealed the dressing room spirit is good ahead of Southampton’s visit on Saturday.

“What you want to do is be there as long as you can at the top of the table because the feeling is very nice,” Enrique told Liverpool’s website.

“Also, when you’re walking down the street or going out for dinner, you can see there are a lot of people happy.

“When the team is in a good position, Liverpool is another city. The weather is still the same, but the city is a different city. It’s very important we try to stay there.

“We have a good squad – I’ve been here three years and it’s the best squad we’ve had. Hopefully we can stay up there.

“The atmosphere between the players has always been very, very good. We have a good squad with nice people and, of course, good players.

“Of course, when you’re winning, the atmosphere in training is different – even with the manager and the staff, but this is normal.

“Our confidence is high because we’ve been doing very well. Playing at home is an important point, we are playing well and we want to keep that run going.”
