Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva thrilled to have ‘world-class’ Luis Suárez back

Lucas Leiva has admitted his delight at Luis Suárez’s return to action after the Liverpool striker scored twice in Sunday’s 3-1 win at Sunderland.
The Uruguay international played his first Premier League game since April after receiving a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a match at Anfield.
And Lucas is thrilled to have the 26-year-old forward back firing for the Reds again after Brendan Rodgers’ men moved up to second place in the table behind early pace-setters Arsenal.
“Luis has just become a father again and for him to celebrate with two goals, I am very happy for him,” Lucas told the Liverpool Echo.
“He is showing again just how good he is. He is a world-class player and it is so important to have players like that if you want to fight for good things this season.
“Hopefully he will have another fantastic season for us like he did last year.”
Daniel Sturridge scored the opener at the Stadium of Light before setting up both of Suárez’s goals.
And Lucas believes that the two forwards are capable of developing a fruitful strike partnership for the Merseysiders this season.
“When Dan arrived here, within a few months Luis got the ban so they didn’t have much chance to play many games together,” he continued.
“But you could see today how well they linked up. The understanding between them is really good and it will only get better.
“It will improve over the course of the season and hopefully they will keep helping us with goals and assists.”
