Luis Suárez insists he is happy to be a Liverpool player and made his decision to remain at Anfield “some weeks ago”.
The 26-year-old was the subject of two failed Arsenal bids during the summer transfer window after the forward indicated his desire to leave the Merseyside outfit in June.
However, the Reds refused to sell their prized asset and denied the existence of a clause in Suárez’s contract which forced the club to sell the striker if an offer in excess of £40m was made.
Despite being denied his move away, Suárez, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, is happy to continue his career at Liverpool
“For, me, it has been closed for some time. I made the decision to stay at Liverpool some weeks ago, and I want to stay and work for the team from now on,” said Suárez.
“I will go back to Liverpool to play, and I hope to be the same player the fans can trust.
“I said I wanted to play in the Champions League, but when that didn’t happen, I knew I’d be happy with life to have my future at Liverpool.”
Real Madrid were reported to be weighing up a late bid for the Uruguay international ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday night.
But Suárez, who is currently serving a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic in April, is “comfortable” with his decision to remain at the Reds.
“It is closed now, and I am comfortable with the decision. I said if there was something good, I would be interested, if not, then I am happy at Liverpool. I can say now I am happy,” he added.
He added: “Of course, I am not playing. I just want to concentrate on getting ready to play for Liverpool again.
