Liverpool transfers: Mamadou Sakho says he is relishing competition for places at Anfield after joining from Paris Saint-Germain
Mamadou Sakho says he is relishing competition for places at Liverpool after sealing a reported £18m move from Paris Saint-Germain.
The France international becomes Liverpool’s most expensive signing of the summer following the earlier arrivals of Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Simon Mignolet, Aly Cissokho and Tiago Ilori.
Sakho faces a fight to break into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team after Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel both impressed in a 1-0 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester United on Sunday.
Furthermore, the Reds are yet to concede a goal in the top-flight this season following three successive 1-0 victories, with new signing Toure receiving the plaudits for his impressive performances.
However, Sakho, who was part of PSG’s side which won the Ligue 1 crown last season, insists he is not worried about his defensive rivals.
“In a large club, having competition is something you expect,” said Sakho. “To get the best out of any player, you need to have competition.
“Competition doesn’t give me any worries. Competition makes the team grow and makes the club grow because that’s the objective and the goal of everyone here.
“I’ve been at Melwood for a day and it’s very good. The training areas are impressive and everything is in place for the players to keep in top condition.
“Everything is adapted for professional sports-people and it really gives a good image of a club like Liverpool.”
